The History of Fabled Youth

I began the Fabled Youth series in 1998 and have been working on it ever since.  I spent six years abroad working and traveling throughout Asia and Europe after college and brief stints as an illustrator for a company and newspaper.  I continue to travel through grants and my own expenses. The overseas experiences continue to allow me to see my own culture in a new and alternative way.  When I first left the United States, I realized I had not really learned US history in all its awkward truths and myths.  It took others in foreign lands to let me realize how my own culture evolved to what it is today.  The work I make is influenced by a multitude of varying sources including teen-age art, children's books, television, the Internet, advertising, marketing, history, the corporate bombardment of daily images, etc.  All of this is packaged through the viewpoint of the high school adolescents I work with and my own memories of youth.
